All 3 Sunday morning worship services here at Trinity UMC are growing in every way that can be measured, and attended by a wide range of members and visitors. Naturally, there are differences apart from the timing, and this brief description may be helpful to those wishing to experience the meaningful worship that so many have found here. We encourage you to start with the service that best describes what you are looking for, but don’t stop there! Come back another Sunday at a different time, or just stay for the whole morning! Don't forget to check out our Sunday School Classes, for Adults, Youth and Children. It is our prayer that you will encounter the living and risen Lord Jesus Christ here! May God richly bless your search for a church home.
8:00 A.M. Casual
This service is held in the sanctuary. Generally the music is provided by our pianist, with occasional selections by the Morning Glory Choir. The sermon is given by our pastor, and communion is usually served on the first Sunday of the month, as it is for all 3 services. There is a time for any children in attendance to come forward to sit with the pastor and hear the morning’s message in simplified words just for them, and many insightful comments have come directly from the little ones at those times! Naturally at 8:00, many are getting an early start on a busy day’s schedule, and their casual dress is expected and welcomed. A time of refreshment (which we call coffee-cookie) is offered immediately after the service in the sanctuary. Making you feel welcomed is very important at Trinity!
9:30 A.M. Contemporary
This service is held in Murrow Hall, which is entered by a short walk down the sidewalk to the left of the sanctuary's front doors. Music is provided by Promise., our Trinity worship band, made up of talented instrumental and vocal musicians. Although the sermon, communion and children’s message are given by the pastor, the Praise Team leads the worship. There is generous use of audio-video technology, which moves the congregation from an enthusiastic gathering, through a time of quiet reflection and meditation, then back on their feet with clapping hands and uplifted arms. Coffee-cookie time is open from the time you get here until the goodies are gone! The overall atmosphere during this hour is easy and accepting. Many who have come to this service with little or no church in their backgroundhave found a place and a way to profess Jesus Christ as their savior.
11:00 A.M. Traditional
This traditional service led by our pastor is held in the sanctuary, and is the hour during which the music is provided by the Chancel Choir piano and organ. This music ministry is growing so richly in participation that it was recently necessary to renovate and enlarge the altar and choir loft area. You probably will find it difficult to tell the brand new area from that which is well over 100 years old. At times you will hear the bell choir, the jazz band, the orchestra and various other instrumental offerings. Even though the choir and minister wear robes, and many men wear neckties casual dress is totally acceptable! Trinity is a warm, welcoming and happy place, which we hope you will visit, and in which we pray you will find your place to worship God.
11:00 A.M. Contemporary
“As elements of the service come together, we’re really excited about this new worship experience at Trinity,” said Associate Pastor Michelle Sabin. She noted that a major target audience for the new service will be the “unchurched,” – those who may be believers, but who have rejected traditional church for whatever the reason. “We want to be relevant while retaining a totally mission-based focus,” Michelle added.
The service will take advantage of familiar cultural elements that appeal to today’s new generation of seekers. Various combinations of music, video, drama, and even dance will support relevant and practical Christian messages. “While praising God is always the reason we worship on Sunday, the service will emphasize being Jesus in the world when we leave the worship celebration,” Michelle noted. “While we believe that the service will appeal to all generations, we are particularly concerned in creating a worship experience for those who do not have a church background and for those that have rejected the church but still love Jesus,” she added.
One of the unique elements in the service will be music. Amy Edwards, Trinity worship leader and youth director, is working closely with Michelle to develop the new service. “Music will have a contemporary feeling, but will also incorporate some traditional hymns done in a different way,” Amy said. “We’ll be careful not to dilute the Christian message in any way, but we also want to ensure we are not ‘lukewarm’ in the music, and all other elements. We will strive to do everything with an eye to excellence to meet the expectations of the audience to which this service is directed,” she added.
Michelle and Amy will be working collaboratively with Trinity’s Senior Pastor Jeff Roberts in developing preaching series and creating continuity throughout all the services. While the services will have different elements, one cohesive message will be the foundation for all four services every Sunday.
Michelle and Amy also noted they are seeking additional, committed team members to help create the new Sunday service. Needed are graphics and PowerPoint design people, set designers and builders, as well as missions, social, and hospitality coordinators. “We also need experienced videographers, since we would like to produce most of our video material in-house, instead of purchasing generic, ‘off-the-shelf’ videos,” Amy added.
