Altar Committee The Altar Committee oversees the altar and keeps it up to date with the necessary working parts and decorations as well as cleaning and filling certain parts weekly.
BRASS AND CANDLES: The brass candlesticks, offering plates and communion trays need to be polished according to their usage. The candlesticks and plates usually need this weekly. The candles need to be filled every week with liquid paraffin so they will burn for services. Ruth Ann Petzinger and Charen Fink have done this job for several years.
BANNERS: Changing the banners to correspond with the church liturgical calendar is done when the calendar says to. The colors and message of the banners proclaim the emphasis each church season calls for. Some seasons are very busy (Easter and Christmas), others are changed about once per month.
PARAMENTS: Paraments is church word for the altar cloth, the pulpit cloth, and the Bible bookmark. They come in four colors: red, green, white and purple. These correspond to the liturgical calendar and are changed at the same time the banners are changed. Jane Corrie and Nancy Kern have tended to this since 2003. Glen Davis handles this responsibility with creativity and taste in Murrow Hall.
SUMMARY: Our duty is to oversee the the total look of the altar area also. We now have a different committee to make some new banners to replace some worn out ones and some that we have never had but need. Kay Hill and Ellen Dorsett have joined Nancy Kern and Jane Corrie for this. Glen Davis will join us when he needs to.
