Pastoral Assistant & Youth Director Amy Edwards

Amy Edwards was born in Port Jefferson, NY and has moved around a great deal during her lifetime to places including Miami, FL, Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, Rocky Mount and Raleigh, NC. She began singing in the church at age nine and was an active member of her youth group. Amy holds a degree in Music Education from East Carolina University where she was the recipient of a Fletcher Scholarship. She taught elementary music for four years before beginning her work with United Methodist Churches. At Trinity UMC Amy coordinates the youth ministry as well as the 9:40 contemporary worship service. She has a creative approach to many of her ministry areas including creating a bucket band for elementary school children. Amy has also sung at the Southport Spring Festival for the past three years and at the 2007 South Brunswick High School Baccalaureate Service. Amy and her husband Ben have two children.

Children's Ministry - Sherry Gibbs

Sherry Gibbs was born in Nashville, TN and has lived in several places including Bradenton, Florida, Lumberton, NC, Valparaiso, IN and Saudi Arabia. Sherry grew up in Bradenton, Florida and attended Manatee Vocational -Tech College. She was very active in her youth group and served on several church committees as the youth representative. Her work experience of 14 l/2 years of Christian Education and children/youth ministries began after moving to Lumberton, NC and then to Valparaiso, IN. Sherry and her husband, Elton (a.k.a. Bob), have two grown children and two granddaughters. Their daughter, Elizabeth and granddaughters, Macayla and Krisalyn live here in Southport, NC; and their son, Michael and his wife Ashlee live in Chicago, IL.

Nursery Director - Laura Patten

Laura Patten, our Nursery Director, was born and raised in the suburbs of New York City. She attended Manhattan College where she studied a variety of subjects, most of which were religion classes. During her first two years in college, she developed a love of helping others and knew she had found her direction. Knowing she wanted to help people, she joined the LaSallian Christian Brothers in Kansas City. She worked in a Catholic school where she started a reading program and monitored the after school program. After a year of volunteering, she chose teaching as her career. She returned to New York, received her Bachelor's degree from Manhattan College and became a certified Elementary Educator. She then continued on to earn a Master's degree in Reading at Fordham University. After receiving her Master's degree and teaching in New York City for four years, Laura and her family moved to Brunswick County in 2004. She is employed by Brunswick County Schools as a Curriculum Support Specialist at Jessie Mae Monroe Elementary School. Laura has been with Trinity since 2006, first as the Nursery Assistant working with infants, and now as Nursery Director where she has a direct role in teaching young children about God's love. She works hard to ensure that all children in her care have a positive and safe Church experience.
